Mom and Dad

Mom and dad are really stubborn and I hate to say that because I love them so much. But they’re all about being low-tech which is fine except that they hate to talk on the phone so I’m never able to get in touch with them. I told them if this is how they were going to be about the phone they’d at least have to learn to email so I’ve set them up with Internet Providers and been working on what I can do to keep them in the loop. I actually had to move back home a couple of years ago when I lost my job and I was amazed at how they’ve totally shunned technology. They don’t even have a microwave in the kitchen – I mean, really, who doesn’t have a microwave! Anyway, I love my parents to death but at the end of the day they need to get with it or we’re going to have to get more involved. They like their privacy so I know they would hate that!

You Can Get Almost Anything Online

Earlier I was filling out a survey a grad student had sent me and I realized how many of my answers had to do with the internet! My social life (mostly due to my health) is through the internet. I do 90% of my shopping on the net. I send cards (although I prefer the good old fashioned paper cards via snail mail!).

Speaking of shopping, there are millions of websites selling stuff. The ones I like are the ones that let you compare different websites. One was brought to my attention, and they have EVERYTHING. Like these sectional couches (which I happen to LOVE) or lift top coffee tables. How cool are those? You can store stuff in them and then just cover it up.

I remember an episode of Trading Spaces a long time ago where Doug did a zebra wall, but he painted it. He could have just gotten zebra wallpaper online! For those who want a bit more upscale decor, check out Candice Olson. There are some amazing pieces! A little too fancy for my quaint old farmhouse, but it sure is fun to look!

AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Hey all,

I am at my hubby's work on his computer and need to leave in about 5 minutes, but I wanted to post really quickly.

I need a cell phone booster to get my internet to connect because I live out in the middle of freaking nowhere the country. Well, we had hellacious storms last Thursday, and I've been having trouble connecting since then.

My McGuyver hubby got out his electricity meter thingy and somehow came to the conclusion that the box had been hit by lightning. It is fried. SO.....I will be getting a new one, to the tune of waaaay more money that I wanted to spend, and hopefully I will have it tomorrow!

Randomness

The sun!! It DOES still exist!!! Jacob and I will be bundling up to go outside shortly...it's still a bit chilly, but the sunshine...well, we can't pass that up. You never know when you'll see it again in Michigan!

Bizarre thing....I've had the froggiest voice for the last 3 days. Just hoarse and weird. Been super tired too, but that's typical for over-doing a bit, and just the whole MG thing. The voice is annoying though. OH well.

My superfast internet is still fantastic, and while we will be keeping the dial up and phone until we get back from vacation in February (so Doug's parents have back-up!)

On a serious note: I checked this out on Snopes, and they confirmed it was true. There is a little boy named Noah who is suffering from neuroblastoma, and will not see Christmas (according to his doctors). His family will be celebrating Christmas this weekend. Noah loves Christmas cards, and they are asking that people send a card. SO....if you would like to, here is the address:
